The Hawaii County League of Women Voters invites the public to a forum with lieutenant governor and state Senate District 4 candidates at 5 p.m. June 25 at Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Luau Hale.
Candidates will answer a set of written questions from the public. The forum will be moderated by Sherry Bracken, former Hawaii Island reporter for Hawaii Public Radio and member of the Hawaii Island Women’s Hall of Fame.
The LWV has invited all candidates who have filed to run for these two offices by the June 5 deadline.
“The League of Women Voters of Hawaii County would like voters to be aware that the most important election in Hawaii is often the primary, since so many candidates belong to a single party,” said League President Rosemarie Muller. “We voters need to find out about candidates’ qualifications and positions on important issues before the primary election. Attending candidate forums is a great way to do that.”
A voter registration table will be set up for attendees. The deadline to register for the primary election is July 12. Early walk-in voting will begin July 30. the Mail-in ballots will be mailed by the County Clerk’s Office approximately July 23, 20 days prior to the primary election Aug. 11. The general election is Nov. 6.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
